Who wrote the People's Budget?
The People's Budget was written in 2011 by the 76 members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) the largest caucus in the Democratic Party. These members of Congress were elected to represent the 99%, yet corporate commercial media keeps them virtually invisible.
For example, the Congressional Progressive Caucus includes our Oakland (California) neighbor's fearless Congresswoman, Barbara Lee (D). She is the only one out of 535 members of Congress to speak truth to power just after 9/11 when she told former president George W. bush not to bomb Afghanistan, not to "become that which we deplore." (She got numerous death threats for that.)
The CPC also includes Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D), banned from the Democratic Party Presidential candidates debate in 2008. The only Senator in the Congressional Progressive Caucus is U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders, a political independent.
Would these 76 be open to improving the People's Budget?
There is a sense that the Congressional Progressive Caucus would be open to including more specifics to help the 99%, specifics even they found it difficult to include within the constraints of the current political/economic system controlled by the interests of the 1%.
How does this knowledge empower OCCUPY?
As we vote with our bodies, our power to bring about REAL CHANGE increases with these principled names and faces to communicate with. It then becomes more possible to stop the wars and bring the war $ home to fund human needs, not greed.
